  16. in Florence. A leading "dandy aesthete" in 1920s England, Acton
  17. inspired the character Anthony Blanche in his friend Evelyn
  18. Waugh's Brideshead Revisited. Acton wrote frequently on the
  19. history of Italy, where he owned La Pietra, an estate near Florence
  20. including acres of art, volume-packed libraries and five villas,
  21. which he left to New York University.
